Founder and director of Turf Design Studio, Mike has over 25 years of industry experience and a gifted collaborator to the team with his unique combination of design and implementation skills.
His project experience extends to both bespoke and large scale multi-disciplinary projects including his ongoing work on Central Park in Sydney, Central Barangaroo Masterplan (in collaboration with Skidmore Owings & Merrill) Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney University Public Domain and Sydney Park Redevelopment
Mike’s comprehensive range of experience includes landscape master planning, detailed landscape design, through to project and quality management. His thoughtful design approach and high quality work has seen Mike lead numerous high profile projects throughout Australia and abroad. He has won numerous awards and accolades in the landscape and design industry, including the considerable contribution he made for the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
Scott is associate director and project leader for a number of Turf’s leading projects and overseas project implementation. Scott’s combination of skills has become an instrumental resource in delivering projects that are holistically innovative, well-considered and have a sense of permanency.
His portfolio of work at Turf includes Sydney Park Upgrade & Stormwater Reuse, Central Park in Broadway, Camperdown Public Domain at Sydney University and Fitzroy Gardens, Kings Cross.
Scott’s long-standing professional knowledge in urban horticulture and ecological restoration has ensured Turf deliver countless significant public realm projects; both locally and abroad. His 28 years of industry experience in complimentary disciplines has moulded Scott into a well-rounded body of knowledge for the team at Turf.
Matt is as an outstanding landscape architect and team leader. Well-travelled throughout Australia and abroad, Matt brings a wealth of unique life experiences to his design approach – always seeking outcomes that are appropriate to place and will have an enduring legacy. His role includes mentoring the staff at TURF and leading major projects from concept design through to construction documentation and site advice.
Matt is a great representation of Turf Design Studio; always a great communicator, vibrant in personality and approachable in nature. He is a passionate collaborator to the team on all issues, especially ones of sustainable design.
Matt previously cycled around the entire coastline of Australia as founder and director of a youth-led, not-for-profit environmental organisation. The tour promoted action for sustainable living through school presentations, community events and a large amount of media exposure at national and local levels.
Nicole is part of the core senior team at Turf Design Studio, committed to creating great, community-focussed places for all walks of life to enjoy. From key public domain and recreational landscapes to large-scale urban regeneration projects, Nicole brings 15 years of diverse experience to her role as Associate at Turf. She has worked locally and abroad on landscape and urban design projects of varying scales and complexities, beginning her career in high-end residential landscapes and finally settling into her passion for large-scale city-making and public domain projects.
At TURF, Nicole is responsible for the quality control of design and documentation output in the office, and is a key collaborator on all tender submissions. She values her mentorship role in the office and is always there to offer learnt advice to staff through their career progression.
She is currently the landscape and public domain lead for Melrose Park; the largest urban renewal project to date in NSW. Located 17km north-west of Sydney, the project will transform a 25 hectare pocket of industrial land into a new living city comprising new homes, commercial, retail and public spaces including the 13,000sqm Central Park; forming the beating heart of this new community.
Jonny is project landscape architect on a number of Turf’s largest multi-residential and recreational projects including, Lendlease Circular Quay Tower, DUO at Central Park and the recently completed Taronga Zoo Wildlife Retreat. His dedication to deliver quality design and documentation packages has been commended across all projects that he has been a part of.
Jonny works closely and collaboratively with all design and technical professionals to produce the highest quality project outcomes. He holds a strong interest in design that explores the relationship between people and place and is constantly striving to deliver functional, yet beautiful results.
Brigitta is an urban designer and landscape architect who has contributed to a range of large-scale residential, public domain, infrastructure and masterplanning projects. She is currently project landscape architect on Waterloo Estate and Metro; working collaboratively with Land and Housing Corporation (LAHC), UrbanGrowth NSW and the project team to deliver a State Significant Precinct Study, which includes the technical studies, consultation outcomes, proposed masterplan and proposed planning framework.
Brigitta holds a Master of Urban Development and Design and first class honours in Landscape Architecture whilst developing experience by travelling abroad and working on projects in Japan, China and South America. She brings innovation to the studio through her completed degrees and has seen her name of the Dean’s List at UNSW Faculty of the Built Environment for her creative thinking and tenacity towards her studies.
Scott is responsible for all core 3D graphic visualisation output for the office and has collaborated on a variety of public realm, large-scale residential and infrastructure projects. Scott works effectively with the project team to produce documentation from concept phase to construction.
His diverse background and experience in the field has also seen him lead other projects during his career; including the award winning ‘Green is Gold’ for the AILA Sydney 2030 Streetworks competition. He is constantly engaged in leadership roles and has participated in cross cultural programs; travelling abroad and working on projects in countries including Nanjing, China.
Han has worked across a number of Turf’s hallmark projects and holds a comprehensive understanding of design and delivery across all project phases. She takes pride in delivering quality design and documentation to deliver the highest quality outcomes for each project she is part of.
Han is approachable and always commended on her great communication skills by her clients. She maintains great relationships with consultants by always keeping them up to date with project progress and delivery. Her proficiencies across all technical platforms including Lumion, SketchUp, Revit, AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite allows Han to always communicate a clear and succinct design intent.
Chen is involved on several medium to large public realm projects and has become instrumental in delivering key concept and documentation packages. His background in both architecture and landscape architecture makes him a valuable resource to the team as he approaches all projects with a broad understanding of both the built environment and the landscape. Chen has gained experience working abroad and locally, currently focusing on public realm and park projects.
Chen also finds the time to collaborate with other artists and designers on exciting events including the Biennale of Sydney and Beams Festival. He enjoys collaborative think tanks and the conversation that is created between multi-disciplines.
