Northshore Brisbane

Designed to celebrate the Brisbane River and foster community, the public domain masterplan will guide transformation of the Northshore precinct

As the largest waterfront urban renewal project in Queensland, the old Brisbane port will become home to an estimated 15,000 people, along with a workforce of 10,000.

With Brisbane primed to join Sydney and Melbourne as a leading global city over the next decade, the Northshore precinct plays a vital role in meeting the city’s growth potential.

Located just six kilometres from Brisbane’s CBD and occupying a prime position close to the city’s key economic drivers, the growth corridor includes the Brisbane Airport, the Australia TradeCoast precinct, and the rapidly growing inner northeast.

Turf Design Studio and Environmental Partnership, working in collaboration with Jeppe Aagaard Andersen (AHH), were first appointed in 2012 by Economic Development Queensland (formerly Urban Land Development Authority) to undertake a site assessment and masterplan of this key development area.

Designed to celebrate the Brisbane River and foster community, the public domain masterplan will guide transformation of the Northshore precinct over the next 20 years.

With 4000 apartments due for completion by 2024, the 304-hectare precinct will be transformed from an old industrial wharf into a vibrant inner-city hub for living, working and recreation, complete with roads, parks, open spaces and a 2.5km river walk.

Through extensive and ongoing collaboration with the client, Economic Development Queensland, and also Brisbane City Council, the masterplan and public domain guidelines shape a network of pedestrian-focussed streets and new public spaces.

Since with the masterplan, the team has completed the Stage 1 streets and Hercules Park, which is now out to tender. Future projects Include the River Park and River Walk.
