Quarry Green
ord Mayor Clover Moore officially opened Quarry Green on Saturday, May 14th as part of the City’s ongoing dedication to provide its community with great open spaces and parks. The day did not disappoint, with local residents and visitors turning up to celebrate this brand new public place.
Quarry Green is the City’s latest offering; a neglected pocket in downtown Sydney transformed into a renewed, sun-filled green space, enhancing inner city living for all local residents and visitors.
Turf Design Studio and Environmental Partnership (TDEP) reimagined this tired neighbourhood park along Quarry Street in Ultimo. Our intentions were clear; to maintain the park’s existing framework of mature canopy trees and design for more open space, greater amenity, accessibility and a place of respite.
In its detailing, tree plantings have been rationalised, introducing a central ‘Community Green’ that will play host to local events and festivals. The shared zone expansion along Bulwara Road offers patrons of the Lord Wolseley Hotel and the Uniting Church a place to gather and come to.
Clay bricks have been re-used throughout the park with random sandstone inlays; a nod to the surrounding heritage terraces. Existing Trachyte and Bluestone kerbing has been uplifted and reinstated; referencing the site’s history.
