Discovery Point

Discovery Point redefines the way of urban living by providing fundamental community, recreational and health services

Discovery Point lies on the banks of the Cooks River in Wolli Creek and provides a unique approach to contemporary, community living. Leading the movement of transit-oriented development, Discovery Point redefines the way of urban living by providing fundamental community, recreational and health services in walking distance from its transport hub and residential.

In 2009, Australand engaged Turf Design Studio to undertake Part 3A concept masterplan design for the site. Discovery Point was already partially complete, with existing Wolli Creek railway station, apartment buildings and central park. The original plan is significantly shaped by the existing remnant heritage of Tempe House, St Magdalen’s Chapel and its heritage grounds. It was our responsibility to respect the site’s heritage and further develop the masterplan into a cohesive and unified network of parks, streets, podium and rooftop landscapes.

Part 3A master plan concept focused on:

  • revising the development pattern of undeveloped land west of Brodie Spark Drive; taking in the existing Wolli Creek rail station,
  • completion of the southern edge of Brodie Spark Drive,
  • integration of the above works into the existing urban fabric and,
  • enhancing connectivity to Discovery Point Park and Wolli Creek (for both existing and future development)

Turf Design’s masterplan sets up a public domain framework of diverse typologies; each place taking on a unique character and richness. From the ‘Neighbourhood Park’ that offers an intimacy much like our beloved backyard, to ‘Discovery Point Park’ which provides expansive, open space to walk the dog and kick a ball around. Pedestrian shared user zones of retail and cafes interconnect with residential to provide a place for people to live in and enjoy, however they wish to use it.
